Healthier You with Body Renew

It’s a hot summer here in Anchorage and the parks are filling up with kids. It can be embarrassing to be the parent sitting on the sidelines watching as your kids have a grand old time. Make a commitment to get out there and laugh till your sides hurt.
First, get yourself in shape. Second, get out there and have fun.
Here are some ideas on getting out and having fun with the kids.
We have several disc golf, or frisbee golf, courses throughout Anchorage and further out into Birchwood that you can get your kids out into the wilderness and enjoy a good hike while having fun. Most of them are free too, so it’s an inexpensive opportunity to make memories together.
Plus you’ll be getting some good exercise in depending on which course you take. There is a course at the end of Abbott that has an incredible incline and will get you and your kids huffing and puffing to make it to the last goal.
If you have younger children, you might consider the course at Hanshew Middle School on Lake Otis, past Abbott almost to O’Malley.
Bicycles on the Trails
There’s nothing quite as refreshing as the Alaska air in your face as you ride your bicycle down a giant hill that you just put your all into to climb. Find yourself some decent bikes, don your coolest helmets and get out and enjoy the frontier together.
If your children are still young, get an even better workout by using a trailer that is made to carry children. You can take them to all kinds of neat parks around Anchorage. There are some fun parks to check out in most neighborhoods around the city. Some school parks are open to the public as well. Check and see what parks are close enough to you to ride to.
Become Workout Buddies
Kids have a way of keeping you accountable. Making time each week to workout together is a great way to have fun and get some energy out. Make it a family fun time to do some jumping jacks and push-ups.
Working out together is a great way to teach your kids about the importance of nutrition, health, and other important life lessons. You will find out a lot about yourself and your children when you push yourself to grow together. Whatever you do as an exercise, have fun!
